BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe debuted the new Franz Ferdinand single "Ulysses" earlier today on his show—so a bunch of Brits have already heard it—but the band just put it up on their MySpace for the rest of the world to enjoy. We have to say that we are more into it than we thought we'd be. Maybe it's because we haven't listened to them in so long, or maybe it's because Kapranos is back to writing jams like "Take Me Out." Either way, check the similarity in the la-la chorus to Samberg's ha-ha "Everyone's A Critic" song from Saturday night. Coincidence? WE DOUBT IT.

Last week Marnie Stern announced that she'd setup a kissing both (with her as the kissed) at her two weekend shows with Gang Gang Dance in San Francisco and Los Angeles. (That's what she was in training for, see?) The cost: for a peck on the cheek, for a kiss on the lips, and if you wanted to go French. It turns out she did the booths to raise money to pay for a speeding ticket and other traffic violations. She's brave. Of course, someone took her up on her offer. Though, according to this review of her San Francisco stint, it wasn't as many as you might've guessed. |

Anyone who's been to one of superproducer Jon Brion's residency performances at the Largo in L.A. (sadly, this does not include me) knows the man to be an encyclopedic, multi-instrumental compendium of pop music, able to recreate and revise nearly any moment in rock with his bare hands and a loop pedal or ten. This is the kind of man you get to do a remix CD. Enter of Montreal, who've commissioned Jon to lend his recreating, revising, superproducing digits to some Skeletal Lamping songs. As if they didn't fold over and remix themselves enough. As a first course try out the Brion take on the slinky, littany-of-sex-type-things track "Gallery Piece," which retains its funk, but gets an unexpected rinse of squeaky synths and 8-bit chirps. It's Nintendo sex. |
