Yesterday we had the A-side, an exclusive track by Telepathe named "Heat." Today we'll have 77Klash's exclusive track, "Caroline." Later this week, we'll have an interview with 7-inch cover artist Dash Shaw. We also have physical copies of the record available (for free!). Email us at

with your name and address for a copy until we run out.
"Caroline's more of a dance tune," Gize of 77Klash says about the track, "which is very different from my usual tunes." And he's right: when "Caroline" opens, it seems to have more in common with house than hip-hop; then 77Klash aggressively spits quickly over the squeaky, distant synthesizers and thumping beat and we're left with nothing less than a wild hybrid of sounds. |

Alice Glass topping the NME Cool List isn't so surprising when you consider how she and (to a lesser degree) Ethan Kath have tapped the hep zeitgeist. From the controversy over their merch and accusations of plagiarism down to Glass's perfectly angled hair and perfectly black eye makeup, it's as if the duo's dark fashion-forward 8-bit excursions were hatched by a computer program using Vice and lastnightsparty-approved algorithms. She's that realm's ideal pinup. Fitting, then, that CC's "Air War" would be the soundtrack for this Toshiba clip, ostensibly "the world's first timesculpture advert." |

The Hollywood Reporter just announced a new Jerry Garcia biopic to be produced by some of the guys behind Election, Little Miss Sunshine and Hamlet 2. So, while we have recently treated Jerry with a fair amount of reverence, this version of his life during the years just before founding the Grateful Dead will apparently be a black comedy with plenty of slapstick and a dash of family drama. In light of that, we have compiled our top suggestions for the role of Papa Jerry…

Seth Rogen
This may be an obvious choice seeing as how Rogen is already the thespian laureate of dudes who eat bong smoke for breakfast, but we also see it as his first realistic chance to make the coveted transition from goofball Apatow improviser to full-fledged dramatic actor.
Plus: Hair, vulnerable eyes, husky
Minus: Possible he cannot really act
Acceptable substitute: Jack Black

Jim James
My Morning Jacket's frontman was actually the first to pop into our minds. Despite the physical similarities and obvious ability to credibly play music without overdubs, his inclusion would literally drive hundreds of thousands of passed out Wookies to the theaters.
Plus: Could awesomely interpret early Jerry jams, unique demographic appeal, talked to us a few times
Minus: Last album was kind of tough
Acceptable substitute: Jim Jones

Rich Sommer
Mad Men might get canceled soon, so we feel a responsibility to find all its actors jobs. Sommer, who plays Harry Crane, head of television for Sterling Cooper, is our pick since everyone else is either old, a woman or not very likable.
Plus: seems nice, sang in the Concordia College choir, rosy cheeks
Minus: blogs
Acceptable substitute: pretty much anyone

Large Matt Damon
We never would've nominated this hunk a few years ago, but recent photos of him on the set of The Informant have us convinced he is one of those rare actors who is willing to sacrifice his own health to accurately portray a character.
Plus: big time actor
Minus: too sexy, would probably become addicted to heroin
Acceptable substitute: Philip Seymour Hoffman

Rahm Emanuel
Emanuel will probably be too busy next year banging heads for President Obama, but we are all for this pick if he is. First, his mom owned a rock n roll club in Chicago in the 60s. Second, his brother Ari Emanuel represents Matt Damon just in case Rahm pulls out at the last minute. And third, he and Jerry both lost their right ring finger in childhood accidents. What else do you need?
Plus: total badass, connections, nine fingers, if you Google search "rahm emanuel music," the first result is a Grateful Dead forum
Minus: will have hard time not saying "fuck" constantly
Acceptable substitute: David Axelrod |

Ross Flournoy, the Memphis-born lead vocalist and guitarist for the Samuel Beckett referencing (I Can't Go On, I'll Go On) Los Angeles pop quartet the Broken West, writes and records soundtracks for DVDs when not performing songs from his band's second full-length Now Or Heaven. I asked Flournoy a bit about the process and how it differs from the other music he composes. After our discussion, take a listen to Now's "Auctioneer" and "Perfect Games." |

What if Tron met Japanese anime over coffee and decided to make a clothing line? You'd get Tokyo-based label, Phenomenon. The label came into being somewhere in the depths of a world where corn husks and ultra bright paint are considered plausible hair ornaments. After the initial shock of electric color and corn husk combos wore off, we noticed the adventurous ideas in the pieces. Individually, they are versatile—a green army poncho here, an elaborately patterned shift dress there—the colors are playful and the military styles are reminiscent of a more classical concept. But it’s the wearability that distinguishes it from other conceptual lines, maintaining a sense of imagination even without the red hair paint and tape shoes.

The Red Hot Chili Pepper's developing a series for HBO about "his unconventional, rock 'n' roll childhood" tentatively titled Scar Tissue (also the name of his autobiography). It'll reportedly focus on Kiedis's relationship with his father, Spider, who he's been talking to regularly for the project. Flea's reportedly bummed he's not the only insect in Kiedis's life. [Spider is an arachnid. -Ed.] |
